Opportunity Summary

Electra is looking for a proven leader who has industry or research experience developing, testing, and producing innovative controls methods for energy storage systems to improve system performance. This individual must be committed to the success of the company as a whole. In addition to completing his or her own technical development tasks, this individual should be capable of creating development timelines and milestones, with tasks delegated throughout the Electra technical team as needed.

Expertise & Skills

- Advanced degree: MS or PhD in relevant field

- Battery modeling expertise

- Machine learning and reinforcement learning experience, as well as robust optimization knowledge

Key areas include optimal learning, model predictive controls, neural networks, probabilistic machine learning

- Expert with adaptive control algorithms

- Controls simulation and testing experience

- Software simulation through desktop analyses

- Hardware simulation via bench prototypes

- Prior experience with software - hardware integration

- Deadline driven with an entrepreneurial spirit


- Automotive/EV controls and simulation experience

- Minimum: mobile energy storage applications

- Grid-based energy storage simulation and controls experience

- Ability to code multiple simulation frameworks, with knowledge of data structures required for that framework

- Experience writing patents or academic papers/articles

- Baseline power electronics experience

- Agile/Scrum Methodology

- Develop and continually refine industry-leading adaptive controls strategies to improve the controls of energy storage systems for multiple industries (esp. Automotive, robotics, avionics, and electric grid)

-In particular, these controls strategies should be able to dynamically adjust how power is distributed in a multi-chemistry energy storage system throughout charge and discharge intervals Integrate controls strategies into Electra’s existing and future products for energy storage simulation & controls

- Review the latest research in controls for energy systems to preserve Electra’s competitive technical advantage in control algorithm performance

- Develop and oversee testing procedures to validate the performance enhancements of the controls strategies

- Create research and development timelines, communicate resource needs with executive and strategy teams
